Osteopathy
I have tried to briefly outline what osteopathy is and how it may be of benefit to you. if you have further questions please don't hesitate to contact me. The treatment you will recieve is tailored to your particular problem and there will always be a discussion between us in regard to what we are going to do and why. You may be asked to partially undress to facilitate the treatment - if this is nessesary we will discuss this prior to commencing treatment and if you are not comfortable with this you can be treated fully clothed. Occasionally you may be a bit sore initially after treatment but this should settle quickly. For most people this is not the case and they just feel better after treatment.
Structural/traditional
osteopathy
What is
it?
Osteopathy recognises that a lot of pain and disability we suffer stems from a dysfunctional relationship between our body’s structure and function.
As an osteopath I treat musculoskeletal pain by balancing tissues and normalising function which then helps the body to heal.
Osteopathic treatment consists of soft tissue massage, mobilisation of the spine and peripheral joints and where appropriate specific gentle manipulation. The treatment will vary from person to person and from one treatment to the next. As an osteopath I use my skills in feeling strain in the tissues to normalise the function and thereby help to relieve the pain.
Osteopathy can help a wide range of musculoskeletal conditions including: Back pain, sciatica, neck pain, headaches, shoulder and arm pain, tennis elbow, hip pain, knee pain and foot pain, arthritis pain, sports injuries. Repetitive strain injuries.
This list is not exhaustive so if you are not sure whether osteopathy might be helpfull please contact me for further advice.
Cranial Osteopathy
What is
it? Cranial osteopathy is a very gentle form of
osteopathic treatment. By gently releasing tension and stress
throughout the body it is possible to treat a variety of
conditions. As a cranial osteopath I have done post graduate
training to become proficient in this method of
treatment.
You learn to feel a very subtle, rhythmical shape change that is present in all body tissues. Tension in the body will disrupt this rhythm and the treatment attempts to correct and release this tension.
When do I use Cranial osteopathy?
Adults: when treating adults I often use a mixture of traditional and cranial osteopathy as I find that they work well together.
Babies: cranial osteopathy is often used to treat babies because it is a gentle and safe form of treatment. The stress and strain of emerging into the world can have a profound impact on the body. Cranial osteopathy can help to release this tension and restore normal function. If you would like to know if your baby would benefit from treatment please contact me for more information.
